Rankings  DanceSport WA       Criteria & Ranking List  INFORMATION

Criteria for Competitors

To be awarded points in a Ranking a partnership couple must dance in an Open Event. RANKINGS ARE ONLY BASED ON OPEN EVENTS NOT ON GRADED EVENTS. This is a frequent mis-understanding by parents and dancers.

The WA State Open is the finishing point of the year's total rankings where funding is allocated depending on the addition of all the results over that period and the State Team is selected from the top ranked couples in each style. If a couple wins more than one style they are only eligible for (1) one funding allocation. The best 5 results out of 8 events are selected for Ranking.

Ranking Criteria

Grade

Criteria

Juvenile (Under 13)

To qualify for inclusion in the Latin, Standard, and New Vogue Ranking List, a couple need to dance in as many competitions, as they can. The best 5 results from the last 8 competitions will be used to calculate chart ranking positions.

Junior (13 to under 16)

Adult (16 and over)

Masters (35 and over)

SPECIAL NOTE:

When other couples come from a state outside of WA they are not included in the ranking and the next WA couple will be given the place of the interstate couple, so that WA couples don't lose what would have been their place in that event.

Entry to Competitions

All couples are reminded that it is the request of Dancesport WA that all Ranking Competitions are held as pre-entry events (other grades may also be pre-entry). This is aimed at allowing promoters time to schedule events, to run a timetable, and to allow an earlier departure time. Also the pre-entry of couples enables correct procedures for the verification of Couple Competitor Number and Names being recorded into  the Rankings List correctly. If a couple have not entered then there is a chance that their Ranking Points may not be entered at all, especially if they danced in the semi or the rounds only, of a ranked event, as there will be no name available for that number.

Ranking List Info.

The Rankings are a system used to monitor the ranking of competitive couples. Selected events are used for the compilation of the ranking. These events are held throughout the year. Points are awarded to the couples according to their final position in the selected events in which they have danced. From the points gained it is possible to position (i.e. rank) the couples and thereby show their current position in the specific ranking lists.

List Cycle

Lists are revolving and are based on the last given number of competitions as shown previously. This is designed to make the transition from year to year smoother and to prevent periods when the lists have no real meaning. Example as follows:

These points are then collated to provide the ranking points.

**  These points are allocated only to couples who dance in but do not progress beyond this round. Points for these rounds do not apply if the couple is recalled to the next round or if the number of participating couples is such that the round does not take place. All couples who reach this round but are not recalled further, receive the same number of points.
